Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if parent coaching is right for me?

A: Parent coaching is for you if you feel overwhelmed by all the parenting information out there and want help figuring out what’ll work for you and your family. Coaching helps you bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. It offers you practical, science-backed tools to tackle your parenting challenges so you can make a positive impact on your family.

Q: Will personalized parent coaching really be different from reading parenting books, blogs, and listening to podcasts?

A: There are amazing parenting resources out there that offer general support and guidance. However, they can’t factor in your child and family’s unique history, experiences, and needs. Personalized support takes this information and tailors it for you and your family, saving you time and energy.

Q: Do you see just parents? Or do you see children too?

A: Coaching sessions are for parents. Children don’t attend sessions, however, if it supports the coaching process, parent-child observations in a child’s natural setting may be helpful (ex: at home, school, or on the playground).

Q: Is coaching focused on general parenting or specific populations (ex: Autism, ADHD, dyslexia)?

A: Coaching is offered for general parenting challenges and topics
(ex: parent-child communication, tantrums, transitions, sibling relationships, and setting limits). Referrals are available if you’re looking for more specialized support and expertise.

Q: How is parent coaching different from therapy?

A: Parent coaching is a process to discover where you are now and where you want to be as a parent, set clear coaching targets, and practice new skills. It’s action-oriented, skill-based, and designed to strengthen your family relationships. Therapy, on the other hand, focuses on addressing mental and emotional symptoms and their causes that significantly impact day-to-day living (ex: depression, anxiety).

Q: Do you offer in-person and virtual sessions?

A: Yes, sessions are available in-person, virtual, or a combo of the two. It’s flexible, and we can tailor it to best meet your needs and schedule.

Q: What’s the parent coaching process look like?

A: The first step is a Meet & Greet phone call to see if parent coaching is the right fit for you. If yes, I offer a 12-week See Positive Change Coaching Package which includes:

One-on-One Sessions

  • A 90-minute initial coaching session to get to know each other and help you clarify what you want to focus on, so you can feel grounded and ready to take action.

  • Six 60-minute sessions scheduled every other week so you can build your parenting knowledge and skills.

  • Pre-session reflection questions so you can stay on track with what’s important to you and notice what you're doing well.

Out-of-Session Support

  • Text, email, and phone support Monday through Friday so you can feel supported in the moments you need it.

  • Encouraging texts or emails from me on your off-session weeks so you can continue to work towards what’s important to you.

  • Curated resources to complement sessions so you can deepen your learning (ex: articles, podcast episodes, books, community referrals).

Q: How can I get the most out of my experience?

A: The keys to getting the most out of your experience include showing up to sessions prepared and focused with an open mind and heart, using the out-of-session support when you need it, and committing to practicing skills in between sessions.

Q: Why do you offer a package and not single coaching sessions?

A: One-time sessions or sessions that are scheduled too far apart make it more difficult to get the results you want. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to lose focus and momentum, which can lead to more frustration and challenges.

On the other hand, when you have a dedicated period of time to practice new skills and strategies with support positive results happen.

Q: “I feel like life is so busy! When will I have time for this?”

A: Parenting life can get busy, and you might find yourself saying, “Life is busy right now, it’s not so bad, maybe later.” Ask yourself the question, “What will happen if I don’t do anything?” and see what comes up. Something called you to reach out for help.

Q: What if I want to continue parent coaching after my package has ended?

A: You can invest in another 12-week See Positive Change Package or a customized Ongoing Support Package to help you keep momentum and get follow-up support.
